Annual Events in Herndon

Herndon offers seasonal festivals and many annual events to get you and your family outdoors and active. There's an event for everyone throughout the year: big, small, young, old...even two-legged or four-legged!

Herndon's event season starts in May for Bike to Work Day. To do their part in promoting a green, healthy ride to work, the town hosts a Pit Stop in the morning with free refreshments for commuters. The town's biggest festvial is in early June. The Herndon Festival includes a carnival, arts and craft show, live music, hands-on art stations, and a business expo. The last day of the festival include a 10K and 5K race, and free bike valet is available all weekend. Miss the fireworks at the festival? You can enjoy them soon after on 4th of July. At Bready Park, the patriotic holiday is celebrated with games, crafts, and food for the whole family before the fireworks display.

As summer winds down, Herndon's just getting started. Every Labor Day, the downtown area hosts a wine and craft beer tasting. A concert on the green and local craft and food vendors round out a fantastic long weekend, thanks Herndon's Parks and Recreation Department and Women's Club.

The Kids Triathlon takes place every year in September to start the school year off on an active note. Distances are adjusted for different age levels so that every child can feel the accomplishment of completing a triathlon. Also in September, Runnymeade Park hosts the annual NatureFest. Arts and crafts as well as different educational stations allow the whole family to get immersed in nature and learn new things about the outdoors. Even your family's pets can get in on the action; every October, the HernDOG Bark Bash takes place at Bready Park. The event includes vendors, agility demonstrations and contests, and dog adoptions, and is free to the public. In November, the Turkey Trot 5K brings over 1,000 runners to burn some calories before the big dinner.

This town is always on the move and getting ready for another big event. No matter what time you decide to visit Herndon, you'll find yourself with great outdoor activities for you and your family!
